art against war
KERBLOG
mazen kerbaj's drawing today should be plastered all over the place...
that's just my two cents of an opinion.

for shame!
o.k. people, stop it! right now. stop with this war, for fuck's sake!
what can i do. nothing absolutely. just read the blogs from both sides (again, thank heavens for people like lisa goldman). worry about my family and friends. worry about everyone. worry about this global village of ours.
worryworryworryworryworryworryworrry.
i really should NEVER have children of my own. i don't want to pass this worry-gene on. i mean, REALLY!
please, somebody come to their fucking senses! shitfuckshit.

mail!
this arrived in the mail today, enclosed in a letter from my friend s. i don't know your opinion, but to me that is one funky garden, coming from a 3yr old! but then again, she does come from an excellent gene pool;-) (writing by s., of course, but i can tell you from personal experience that kerem berem tells one *exactly* what she wants writen on her work).

another blog for you, this time by an israeli.
Stefanella's Drive-Thru
today's post touches on something i've suspected but wasn't sure how to express.
that's usually my problem;-) i'm not very articulate when it comes to politics.
k.
ps. i'm suprised though that nobody's sharing their thoughts on any of the previous war related posts...what did you think of the letters for peace, for example?

a true princess
this is my friend iris with her son ido, who has just turned one. they live in jerusalem. she sent me a few pics this morning and once again i was struck with how beatiful this woman is. she also happens to be very bright, sharp-tongued and kind. she's working on an ma in translation and editing and works as a teacher of hebrew-as-a-second-language. she, my other friend reut and i met in res, during my year living and studying at the hebrew university of jerusalem.

about the town
it is increasingly harder to stay put in my little hole of an apartment, even despite the heat outside, these days. maybe my brain just needs a change of environment. sometimes a non-academic outside stimulation can be useful. what a breakthrough!;-P
no, but the serious absence of *good* coffee has become a serious drawback of the home office.
in times like these a girl needs to packup her piles of papers and writing utensils and head out.
i usually alternate between those few places in this city that have umbrella-ed outside tables.
today -- broadway roastery. after 20 mins outdoors i capitulated and retreated indoors. more due to the traffic noise than the firery weather conditions.
anyway, the backroom is not bad and there's an intriguing round, wooden staircase leading to unidentifable compartments (it's locked with a wee iron gate).
i don't know about you but i do love the mystery of out-of-bounds staircases. must remember to bring nik next time.
also, no aircon but ceiling fans. heaven.
there was a francophone family close by (quite charming incidentally, what is it about kids talking in another language?). my brain responded by reading numbers i was pouring over, in hebrew. hmmm.

some of you have expressed concern so i want to reassure you that not all israelis support their government. i've already mentioned lisa goldman's blog in the previous post but take a look at her photos here
that address this topic.
i think i am realising for the first time what those americans who don't want to have anything to do with george and co. must feel like.

please read it
i promised myself that i will not talk about the war here but then i came across this blog and really wanted to share it with you (be sure to check out her flickr album as well)...and etgar keret is one of my favourite young writers.
also, my friend f. sent me a link to this blog. i think there will be more israeli and lebanese blog-evidence coming in the future as i make my way through them, so stay tuned.
of course, you might say "what does all that have to do with me?" but maybe you won't.
k., who still believes in the human connection

not about politics
i wish i had something wise to say about "the situation" in israel but i don't. and this is really not the place. all i think about, when i peal myself away from the computer and watch and listen (telly and radio) is how far will all this go? you might have heard that haifa has been bombed by hezbollah and that (last time this happened was in 1991 during gulf war) the long range missiles are perfectly capable of reaching tel aviv, one of my favourite places on earth. both my family and lots of my friends live in the area.
so, if you have any good thoughts to spare now would be the time to think them. of course if any of you have family and/or friends in lebanon i will do the same for you.

conversation
a friend runs a summer camp for kids. i helped her for a bit today.
7 year old: "who are you?"
k.: "er, i'm just helping here"
7yo: "are you someone's mom?"
k.: "no. not yet anyway"
7yo: "so, you don't have a baby?"
k.: "no!"
7yo: "but you like kids, right??"
k.: "...if they're well behaved"
7yo: "what if they're not?"
k.: "i become very mean"
7yo: dissolves into giggles.

another birthday girl!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARRIE!
happy flying;-DDD
carrie doesn't like looking at pictures of herself so instead i've included a really old cartoon (from 3 yrs back). she told me she's planning to be very busy on her birthday, though without specifying exactly what it is that's supposed to keep her so...
maybe she'll be running around the house looking for presents from a certain boy,
or maybe playing with baby goats,
or stuffing herself with a gluto-lacto-suprise cake,
or making prank calls...
who knows.
one thing is certain, she will be wearing her cape.

in other news
my beloved safi has commenced...for pics go to 'julia's view' and 'rotem's world' links on the right.
they're finally installed in new quarters this year. so posh it's blinding! love the room decor;-)
i miss the dig horribly, but i've sort of came to terms with the fact that getting your academic life and finances on track is also important.
in other news, it's my beautiful mother's birthday today!
happy bday, darling!
she's 26. (these are my orders and i know better than to say otherwise)
here she is entering the tour de france race...er...some years ago.

o.k., so
i will probably regret confessing to this, in the morning, but i've started watching 'grey's anatomy' today...it happened to be the episode where sandra oh's character says to meredith "this is what you do on your bad days? kiss dr. mcdreamy?"
i blame two short women who's names start with a 'c' and a 'd'.
where will this lead?!
nobody knows. least of all me.
i don't even know why the telly was on!
*sigh*

personal
interesting, good day. so far anyway.
beautiful outside, cool inside.
had a online conversation with an old, old and very dear friend, who lives across the ocean. i'm happy to report that we were able to pick up right from where we left it off;-))) you see, we haven't talked in so many years, i've stopped counting them. but i've missed him very much. and now we're live again! yay!
then i had a chat with another good friend who's getting married soon, and so there are A LOT of girly details to discuss;-) i haven't been to a wedding since i was 4 yrs old, i hope it's going to be a blast.
then i also talked to the parental unit.
listened to a sarah harmer concert on the radio.
really must-do-work now.
k.
